A person fell or jumped from a balcony at the Oculus World Trade Center PATH station in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.  The victim plunged three stories onto the floor of the usually busy center hall.

The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was seen being taken out of the building on a stretcher and put into an ambulance on Church Street. Witnesses described him as in very bad shape with head trauma and multiple broken bones.

An image posted on Twitter by Jason Peak showed the unidentified man on the ground inside the building with police and military personnel surrounding him shortly after the incident.

Mike Fraietta witnessed the aftermath. He said a security guard at the scene was distressed by the situation and was being consoled. Fraietta said the building was not cleared but a large perimeter was set up by police.

The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. No other details were immediately available about the incident.

The $3.74 billion Oculus opened in 2016 and serves at the terminus of the PATH trains that run to the World Trade Center from Newark and Hoboken, New Jersey.
