Rocksssanne, Round Rock's library snake, to retire after 25 years
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Rocksssanne, a fixture of the Round Rock Public Library, has earned a much-deserved retirement.
The ball python was adopted in Jan. 2000 when she was estimated to be about three years old. She has made appearances during kids' storytime events and at local schools and inspired art installations.
Rocksssanne got her name from the children of Round Rock, who submitted names to a contest and eventually selected "Miss Rocksssanne NoFeet" as the winner.
This January, she will be turning 28 years old. According to the city, ball pythons raised as pets are expected to live approximately 20 years.
The library plans to honor her with several weeks of festivities leading up to her official retirement on March 1.

Post-retirement, Rocksssanne will enjoy a quiet life under the care of staff in a calm, private space—away from the noise and excitement of public life, says the city.
The city says that library staff expect to transition her viewing window in the spring to an aquarium featuring an educational exhibit of fish native to Brushy Creek in partnership with The Aquarium Company, Living Waters Fly Fishing and Texas Parks and Wildlife.
