Thrall Independent School District is asking the community for donations or sponsorships for trauma kits in order to be prepared for mass shootings.

"Due to the recent mass shootings around the country, it is more important now than ever before to be prepared and to expect the unexpected," a letter sent out to the community says.

According the letter, Thrall ISD has been trained in Stop the Bleed, a national awareness campaign launched by the White House in 2015. Staff at the district has been trained in first aid methods "designed to reduce loss of life from traumatic wounds." According to the Thrall district school nurse, a person who is hemorrhaging can die within 5 minutes without the proper assistance.

The district's goal is to have a trauma kit in classrooms, athletic departments, buses and next to each AED.

"It is our hope that we will never have a real need to use the kits, but if something does happen we want to be prepared and know what to do," the letter says.

The trauma kits range from $65 to $125.
