Victim's family asking for help to solve his murder

The family of an Austin murder victim is pleading for the public to help them identify a suspect.

Austin police said they have heard several accounts of what happened, but so far haven't been able to locate a witness.

21-year-old Ruler Bailey was shot and killed about eight months ago at the RARE apartment complex in East Austin. That complex is located on Springdale Road near Manor Road.

For eight months, Homicide Detective John Brooks has worked to find the person responsible for Ruler Bailey's murder.

“There was several people involved and an altercation ensued and ended up in a shooting and Ruler Bailey was shot and killed

Bailey was shot and killed at 12:45 in the afternoon and Brooks believes others at the complex know more than they are willing to admit.

“I've got all kinds of word on the street information. Really, right now, I'm looking to hear from some actual witnesses,” said Brooks.

Knowing the killer is still out there has been extremely difficult for those closest to Ruler.

“He was a great guy. He didn't deserve this. He's just very missed. He's really missed,” Khristhiana Bailey, Ruler’s mother said.

Police said ruler was shot three times and transported to the hospital where he later died.

“This was gruesome, a hard pill to swallow and completely unnecessary,” said Khristhiana.

Without a motive, suspect or witnesses Austin police have hit a wall, leaving Ruler's family without any closure.

“The only thing that would even help get my mom and my little sister and my family some rest is if these people are caught because it's going to happen again to some other kid,” Ruler’s sister, Dykhrysta said.

That’s why the Bailey’s are begging anyone who knows anything about the crime to turn over information to police.

“I just want to get justice for him,” Khristhiana said.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting, to call them or Crime Stoppers.
