AUSTIN, Texas - Austin police have issued a warrant for a South Austin man who, police say, stabbed another man in the face.
Armando Torrez Amaro-Herrera, 27, has been charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to court paperwork, officers were dispatched to an assault with injury on Feb. 13 just after 3 p.m. The victim was transported by his parents to an emergency room on Menchaca Road with a stab wound to his face.
The victim told officers he had been stabbed by Amaro-Herrera. He told detectives he had known Amaro-Herrera since fifth grade and had had an affair with Amaro-Herrera's girlfriend about eight years ago. He said he believed Amaro-Herrera was over it, but ran into him in a store about four months ago where he stared at the victim, leading the victim to believe Amaro-Herrera was still angry with him, says the affidavit.
The victim said about two or three months ago, Amaro-Herrera drove up to his apartment and sat in his car, staring and laughing at him.
On Feb. 13, the victim said he was at his car with his son and nephew in a parking lot when Amaro-Herrera drove up and parked his car, blocking him in. Amaro-Herrera walked towards him, waving his arms and talking derogatorily toward him. The victim said Amaro-Herrera moved toward him and punched him in the face, knocking his hat off, says the affidavit.
Amaro-Herrera then pulled a knife from the back of his pants and began swinging it at the victim. The victim backed away and picked his hat up, then took off his jacket to engage Amaro-Herrera. The victim said he was able to punch Amaro-Herrera, knocking him to the ground. He then went to his car and stood with the driver's door between him and Amaro-Herrera. He told detectives he was able to get into his car when Amaro-Herrera ran and swung at him with the knife, stabbing him in the face.
The victim was able to drive away. He went to his parents' house and his parents took him to the ER due to a five-inch cut on his face.
A resident took cell phone video from their apartment window that detectives reviewed and the affidavit says corroborated the victim's story.
