APD: Man struck, killed after walking into dark roadway in South Austin
AUSTIN, Texas - A man was struck and killed in South Austin after he walked into the path of oncoming traffic, says the Austin Police Department.
A preliminary investigation shows that on January 18, around 10:45 p.m., 55-year-old Juan Palacios and another pedestrian walked into a roadway where Palacios was struck by a grey Ford F-150, says APD.
The truck was traveling westbound in the 4700 block of Burleson Road when it struck Palacios. He was later transported to Saint David's South Austin Medical Center where he died on January 26.
The area in which the two pedestrians were crossing was dark with no crosswalks nearby, according to Austin police. No charges are expected to be filed.
APD is currently investigating this case and anyone with information should call APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-5576.
This is Austin’s eighth fatal traffic crash of 2020, resulting in eight fatalities. At this time last year, Austin police say there were three traffic fatalities.
