Williamson County Pct 1 Constable's Office warns residents about scam caller pretending to be deputy
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas - The Williamson County Precinct One Constable's Office is warning residents about a phone scam asking for gift cards to clear warrants.
The constable's office says at least 10-15 people have called about the scam.
According to the constable's office and the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, the caller is claiming to be an employee of WCSO and is using the name of one of the deputies.
The constable's office has confirmed the number is not a Williamson County law enforcement number.
"We do occasionally need to contact people via phone for legal matters, but you will always be able to verify our number, or contact us via different means," says the constable's office in a Facebook post.
WCSO says they will never request payment over the phone and that suspicious calls should be reported.
The constable's office also provided links to the National Do Not Call registry and to tips on recognizing phone scams from the Federal Trade Commission.
