Winter Storm Warning for Central Texas

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. for all of Central Texas.

Counties included are: Caldwell, Bastrop, Williamson, Hays, Fayette, Gillespie, Burnet, Llano, Lee, Travis and Blanco.

A high impact winter event with significant icing will evolve in the next 24-hours. An Arctic Front is due into the area just before midnight ushering colder temps, lots of wind and wintry precipitation.

Rain is expected to develop around 8 p.m. to midnight; freezing rain and sleet is expected from midnight to 9 a.m on Tuesday; and sleet and snow is expected from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This could mean slick spots on bridges and overpasses first and then on main roads. Icy roads are likely with accidents and closures. Be prepared.

Temperatures will drop quickly overnight, however, we hit 70° on Monday, which should at least keep the ground warm enough to slow down the freezing surfaces.

Temps will not get above freezing on Tuesday, so any lingering precipitation will likely stay frozen. Ice accumulations and snow accumulations will be small, but even a small amount of ice or snow
will be a major problem for drivers especially Tuesday morning.

While things will dry out Tuesday night, another batch of potentially icy weather is possible as we head from Wednesday night into Thursday.
