Woman charged with DWI after driving wrong way on Capital of Texas Highway
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department has charged a 51-year-old woman with a DWI after she drove the wrong way on the Capital of Texas Highway. The woman was driving 40 mph and got into a head-on collision with another vehicle.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of southbound Capital of Texas Highway around 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 26 for reports of a two-vehicle collision. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed two vehicles with significant front-end damage.

Police officers made contact with Kelly Murphy, 51, who was driving a 2020 silver Dodge Challenger.
Murphy was still in her vehicle and when officers were asking her if she was in need of any medical assistance they noticed she was slurring her speech, according to the affidavit. Police also noted that Murphy appeared to be disoriented.

Officers with the Austin Police Department began a Driving While Intoxicated investigation. Murphy admitted to police during the course of the investigation that she had had a glass of clear wine around 6 p.m. She also admitted to taking several prescription medications.
Kelly Murphy was arrested and charged with a DWI.
