Governor declares state of disaster for Texas

Fears over the rapidly spreading novel coronavirus outbreak are causing authorities to take extra precautions with mass gatherings and events around the world. 

Six Texas labs now able to test for coronavirus

Currently, there are six labs with the ability to do so, including the state lab at the Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin as well as labs in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, El Paso, and Lubbock. 

Gov. Abbott provides update on state's coronavirus response

Governor Greg Abbott will give an update later today on the state's response to the coronavirus following a briefing from the state's top health agencies as well as emergency responders and federal officials.

The virus, labeled 2019-nCoV, originated in Wuhan in the Hubei province of China. Last month, doctors in Wuhan began seeing the new virus in people who got sick after spending time at a wholesale seafood market.
