Burnet grass fire consumes over 40 acres

Flames were first reported north of Burnet off of FM 963 close to Greer Lane just after 4:30 pm.

The grass fire has consumed over 40 acres of private property according to Texas A&M Forest Service. Thick smoke is causing problems for drivers in the area. FM 963 remains closed in both directions.

At one point, flames threatened five structures but firefighters were able to protect them.

According to Texas A&M Forest Service the fires are 90% contained at time of reporting.
