CapMetro to bring "Pickup" on-demand service to Leander

Capital Metro is bringing its on-demand Pickup service to Leander next week.

The service, beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 17, allows riders to request a ride from their front door to anywhere in the service zone directly from their phone via app or by calling the Pickup Service Center.

Using the Pickup app, riders will be able to hail a ride directly from their smartphone and receive directions to a pickup location within a short walking distance. (Capital Metro)

According to CapMetro, Leander is the sixth zone to be added to the service. The service launched in Manor and four areas of Austin earlier in 2019 and CapMetro says it has been very popular with ridership nearly doubling since September.

Pickup will be available weekdays between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., allowing riders to connect with MetroRail service at Leander Station. The Leander service zone will include Austin Community College (ACC) San Gabriel Campus, Leander City Hall, Bagdad Activity Center, St. David’s Medical Center and Leander ISD schools.

Using the Pickup app, riders will be able to hail a ride directly from their smartphone and receive directions to a pickup location within a short walking distance, allowing for quick and efficient shared trips without lengthy detours. Those in the Leander service zone who can't access the app can call 512-369-6200

Customers can download the app from either the iOS or Android app store, register for an account and book a trip. A single ride costs $1.25, the same charge as a Single Ride pass for MetroBus and MetroRapid services. A Capital Metro Day Pass, 7-Day Pass or 31-Day Pass will also cover a Pickup ride.

Pickup currently services Manor, East Austin, Walnut Creek, Northeast Austin and Exposition.
