Gulf of Mexico naming debate: Social media suggests new name
HOUSTON - Following the announcement of President-Elect Donald Trump’s announcement to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, social media has come up with a new name that might work too!
Numerous posts on Facebook are suggesting the Gulf of Mexico be renamed to the "Gulf of Buc-ees".
On Tuesday, President-Elect Trump said, "We're going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. And it's appropriate," he said.
Then around 24 hours later, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to Trump’s name change, saying, "Mexican America. That sounds nice."

Now whether "Gulf of Buc-ees" will actually happen remains to be seen, but most Texans would likely be in support the naming of the Gulf after their beloved gas station.
