More information released about incident in Giddings where multiple people were stabbed, one killed

The Giddings Police Department has released more information about the incident on Monday, June 22 that left one person dead and multiple people injured. 

According to police, officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Independence and North Waco around 8: 25 a.m. for reports of a stabbing. When police officers arrived at the scene, an assault was still in process. The first police officer exited his vehicle and the suspect, a Black male with a knife, approached him. 

The officer gave multiple demands for the suspect to drop the weapon, according to police, but the suspect continued to advance towards the police officer. The officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect three times. 

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. 

He has not been identified at this time.

During the course of their investigation, police learned that the suspect had begun his series of assaults outside of a business that is south of the Independence and Highway 77 intersection. There, he stabbed a 37-year-old woman multiple times outside her place of work. 

The suspect ran north on Highway 77 and entered the Texaco gas station. There, he went behind the counter and stabbed the 62-year-old male clerk multiple times. The clerk was able to fight the suspect off, who exited the store and approached a parked pick up truck with a 49-year-old male sitting inside in the parking lot.

The suspect opened the truck's door and stabbed the 49-year-old multiple times. 

The 49-year-old was able to get out of the truck and attempted to flee while another person in the parking lot tried to intervene, according to the police. The suspect then ran west on Independence, where he encountered a 55-year-old man he stabbed multiple times. 

All four victims were treated and transported to Dell Seton Medical Center and are expected to recover. There is no known motive for the attacks at this time.

The police officer with the Giddings Police Department who shot and killed the suspect has been placed on administrative leave. 

An investigation is being conducted by the Texas Rangers.
