Pedestrian dies after struck by vehicle in Downtown Austin

A man has died after he was struck by a vehicle in downtown Austin Saturday night.

The man was critically injured after he was hit by a driver in the 100 block of North Lamar near Cesar Chavez just before 11 p.m. on Aug. 19.

He was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center where Austin police say he died from his injuries. The man's identity is unknown at this time. 

APD says the driver was not impaired, remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation. 

This fatal crash is Austin's 57th for 2023 and so far this year 60 people have died on Austin roads. Last year around the same time, there had been 65 fatal crashes, resulting in 66 deaths.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
