Helping Hands with Hutto delivers food for those impacted by coronavirus

A group in Hutto is going above and beyond to deliver food to those who need it most during these tough times.

“For the past three weeks we have been delivering food to people in the community who can't get out or who are in need. The elderly, the disabled, people who have been laid off, single parents with children,” said Jacqueline Corbiere.

Corbiere is the President of Helping Hands with Hutto. For the past three weeks, her Saturdays have consisted of preparing food for the Hutto community. She says she has been doing this ever since she heard how COVID-19 was affecting people and their ability to get a meal.

“We've been collecting donations from the community of Hutto, businesses have been donating money, and we've been taking all that money in the restaurants have been donating the food at costs so we can do that and get those meals out to the people,” said Corbiere.

Each week, Corbiere teams up with a different restaurant to provide and make the food. Once the order is made, the food is handed off to the volunteer drivers to be delivered to each person.

“[The volunteer delivery drivers] drop the food at the door, they ring the doorbell, knock on the door, and they walk away and people come and they get their food,” she said.

She says the response has made it all worth it.

“I've been getting pictures of children eating their food and people have been calling me crying and thank you, thank you so much. It's been a very wonderful experience,” said Corbiere.

The food deliveries happen every weekend and run completely on donations. To donate, you can buy a Hutto shirt or Venmo Corbiere directly at @jackie-corbiere. All donations and shirt sales go directly to feeding the Hutto community.
